The Effects of Food Insecurity on People Experiencing Homelessness in Tempe: An Analysis of the Current State of Homelessness and Strategic Recommendations for the City of Tempe Government

"This project was the culmination of my sustainability study and skills. I wrote the paper during my senior year at Arizona State University with the goal of providing analysis, solutions, and specific recommendations to address the problem so prevalent in Tempe. The project started with preliminary research using primary source data from the City of Tempe, online library databases, and research papers on homelessness in the United States. I synthesized this research to answer the fundamental question: why is there a significant homeless population in Tempe and how can we address the underlying problems causing it? The paper concludes with a SWOT analysis of the City of Tempe Government in the context of homelessness as well as a list of 5 specific strategic recommendations for the City of Tempe to begin addressing the problem. Moving forward, my goal is to use this research, and the skills I built through it, to analyze and solve new problems in Tempe. The last goal I have related to this project is to work with the City of Tempe Government to implement new homelessness solutions."
